Le co-créateur de Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, a dévoilé une affiche incroyablement exagérée avec Urban en tant que combattant hollywoodien. L'affiche elle-même est une fausse affiche de film brillant pour un film de fictif Johnny Cage, avec le spectacle ridicule de motos éclatant de flammes - capturant parfaitement l'esprit flamboyant du personnage.
Mortal Kombat 2 sert de suite directe au redémarrage de 2021, qui mettait en vedette Lewis Tan sous le nom de Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada comme Scorpion et Joe Taslim comme sous-zéro.
