"Nous n'avons rien entendu depuis mai", a déclaré Melton. "Il est bloqué à un niveau de gestion. Cela n'a rien à voir avec la création ou quoi que ce soit d'autre. Il y a des choses de niveau supérieur en jeu."
Melton, ainsi que son partenaire d'écriture Marcus Dunstan, ont soumis une ébauche du script au printemps 2024. Le retenue, a expliqué Melton, découle de désaccords entre les producteurs et Lionsgate. "La raison pour laquelle il est résisté est juste, il y a un inter-carré entre les producteurs et Lionsgate. Ils ne peuvent pas tout à fait sur la même longueur d'onde."
Kevin Gruetert, un réalisateur fréquent de la franchise, a été prévu pour Helm a vu Xi en décembre 2023, avec une date de sortie initiale fixée pour septembre 2024. "Saw Xi peut être fait ou non, mais nous avons une histoire très opportune, et j'espère que cela se fera juste à cause de cela", a expliqué Melton avec THR. Il a expliqué que le film explorerait des thèmes similaires à ceux de Saw VI, où les citoyens ordinaires se sentent impuissants et frustrés, et le puzzle intervient pour prendre des mesures.
