OBD2 Diagnostics - Read and Clear Fault Codes and Access Sensor Data

Piston puts your vehicle's diagnostic information right at your fingertips.

Is your Check Engine Light (MIL) on? Use Piston to transform your mobile device into a car scanner, reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) related to the issue along with Freeze Frame data. This helps you diagnose and resolve the problem.

You'll need an ELM327-based adapter (Bluetooth or WiFi) that you connect to your vehicle's OBD2 port. Piston guides you through the connection process. You can access the instructions from the Home page after initial setup or anytime from Settings.

With Piston you can:

• Read and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) defined by the OBD2 standard

• View Freeze Frame data (a snapshot of sensor readings when the ECU detected a malfunction)

• Access real-time sensor data

• Check Readiness Monitors status (monitoring emission control systems)

• Store read DTCs in local history

• Login and save DTCs in the cloud

• Access sensor readout charts

• Export real-time sensor data to a file

• Check your vehicle's VIN number

• Examine ECU details, including OBD protocol and PIDs number

This application requires a separate ELM327-based device (Bluetooth or WiFi) to function as a car scanner. Piston is compatible with OBD-II (also known as OBDII or OBD2) and EOBD standards.

All vehicles sold in the USA since 1996 are required to support the OBD2 standard.

In the European Union, EOBD became mandatory for petrol vehicles from 2001 and for diesel vehicles from 2004. In Australia and New Zealand, OBD2 is required for all petrol cars manufactured from 2006 and diesel cars from 2007.

Important: This application can only access data that your vehicle supports and provides via the OBD2 standard.
