PlayStation Plus subscribers will get five extra days for free

Sony addressed the near-day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this past weekend, attributing it to an unspecified "operational issue" in a social media statement. The company offered no further explanation of the cause or preventative measures.

To compensate PlayStation Plus subscribers, Sony will automatically add five extra days to their subscriptions.

Gamers experienced widespread disruptions, with over one-third reporting login failures and others encountering server crashes.

Sony's requirement of a PSN account, even for single-player PC games, has drawn criticism, and this outage highlights those concerns.

This isn't the first major PSN disruption. A significant data breach in April 2011 resulted in over 20 days of connectivity problems. While less severe, the recent outage has left PS5 users dissatisfied with Sony's limited communication regarding the incident.
