ブリザード・ストーリーチーム、労働組合結成を可決

by Eric Mar 16,2026

The news that the Blizzard Cinematic and Narrative team—comprising employees responsible for in-house cinematics, animations, trailers, promotional videos, in-game cutscenes, and archival work—has voted to unionize with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) marks a significant development in the ongoing labor movement within Microsoft’s gaming divisions.

This vote adds to a growing wave of unionization efforts across Activision Blizzard studios under Microsoft’s umbrella. The move reflects long-standing concerns among creatives about job security, fair compensation, transparency, and equitable treatment—issues that have become increasingly pressing amid industry-wide restructuring and shifting corporate priorities.

Bucky Fisk, a principal editor and key figure in the organizing committee, voiced a sentiment echoed by many in the creative gaming workforce: that the once-stable, career-oriented culture at Blizzard has eroded. His statement underscores a broader desire not just for better pay and benefits, but for a voice in shaping the future of the studios they help build.

The unionization of the Cinematic and Narrative team follows successful union votes by:

  • The World of Warcraft development team (2023),
  • The Overwatch development team (May 2024),
  • Raven Software workers (who recently ratified their first contract),
  • And QA testers at Zenimax (who secured a contract in May 2024),
  • As well as ongoing union efforts at Bethesda and other studios.

These efforts are made possible in part by Microsoft’s commitment to labor neutrality during the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which has allowed employees to organize without fear of retaliation. This shift in corporate policy—while not mandatory—has created a rare environment in gaming for workers to collectively advocate for their rights.

The CWA has been instrumental in supporting these efforts, leveraging its experience in media and tech sectors to represent creative and technical workers across multiple platforms.

As the Blizzard Cinematic and Narrative team moves into negotiations, their focus will likely center on:

  • Fair pay and benefits,
  • Job security and protections against crunch,
  • Transparent decision-making processes,
  • And the preservation of creative integrity and studio culture.

This unionization is a clear signal that the creative workforce at major studios is no longer willing to accept outdated models of employment. Instead, they are demanding accountability, fairness, and a seat at the table.

For the gaming industry, this represents a turning point—one where artistic excellence and worker well-being are no longer seen as mutually exclusive, but as pillars of sustainable, ethical game development.
