Today's PlayStation State of Play broadcast gave us our first proper look at 007 First Light, the upcoming James Bond title from Hitman developer IO Interactive, scheduled for launch in 2026.

A cinematic trailer for the game introduced a new, fresh-faced James Bond at the dawn of his career as a secret agent.

The trailer also confirmed the involvement of The Walking Dead's Lennie James, who will portray a key character within the game.

The 007 First Light trailer reveals that this version of James Bond witnessed his parents' death at just 11 years old, in a tragic mountain climbing incident where they were forced to cut their ropes to save him. The young Bond then descended the mountain alone.

IO Interactive's James Bond project was initially announced in 2020 as Project 007, with few details emerging since. From the beginning, the studio stated it was crafting an original origin story for Bond, independent of any existing film narratives.

More recently, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak expressed hope that 007 First Light would launch a new game trilogy. However, this focus has placed the studio's celebrated Hitman franchise on hold. It was also confirmed this past April that, alongside PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, the game will receive a release on Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 console.
