Afterglow Launches Test Update for Apocalyptic Rhythm Game

by Zachary Mar 12,2026

  • The latest Afterglow update introduces a refined Actions screen for better usability.
  • Quality-of-life enhancements are implemented throughout the experience.
  • Gameplay is further refined with several balance adjustments.

The post-apocalyptic world remains harsh, but the newest Afterglow test build offers survivors a slightly better chance. Shadow Council PTY has released version 0.2.17 for testers on Google Play and TestFlight, delivering a combination of fresh features and gameplay balancing to its expansive idle MMORPG.

As we've covered before, Afterglow revolves around the concept of time—or more accurately, the scarcity of it. You dispatch your crew of wasteland survivors to craft, scavenge, and trade while you attend to your daily life, returning later to find progress made in your absence.

This update reinforces that core loop with an upgraded Actions screen, displaying total remaining durations and clearer item information popups. A new industry tab has also been added to simplify crafting management.

Quality-of-life improvements are evident across the board. Combat features new animations, the Market includes a dedicated search bar, and notifications are now grouped to reduce screen clutter. Crafting has been optimized with shorter production times, more straightforward recipes, and experience boosts for both crafting and PvE activities, making advancement feel more satisfying.

For players focused on strategy and survival balance, the adjustments to armor and weapons will be of particular interest. Leather Armor now emphasizes chemical defense, the Meat Grinder shotgun skill delivers more impact with less setup, and food preparation requires fewer resources—because who has time to endlessly gather ingredients after the world ends?

Afterglow remains in closed testing but is steadily evolving into a thoughtful blend of depth and accessibility. It's designed for brief, regular check-ins rather than extended play sessions, allowing you to stay connected to a slowly rebuilding world even during a short break.
