In *Avowed*, Obsidian Entertainment has crafted an expansive world known as the Living Lands, yet the main quest is surprisingly short. For those eager to continue their journey after the credits roll, here's what you can expect post-game.
For completionists who relish the idea of replaying the main quest on a higher difficulty with accumulated skills and gear, *Avowed* might initially disappoint. At launch, the game does not feature a New Game Plus mode. However, there's hope on the horizon; many players have voiced their desire for this feature, and Obsidian could potentially introduce it through future updates or DLCs.
Even without New Game Plus, *Avowed* offers compelling reasons for a second playthrough. The game's rich narrative is influenced by numerous player choices, impacting both story and gameplay. Starting a new save to explore different endings and experiment with various character builds can be highly rewarding.
*Avowed* is structured around four main regions, plus a secret unnamed finale area and a revisit to one of the game's major cities (which we'll keep under wraps to avoid spoilers). These final areas provide a challenging experience, crucial for utilizing Legendary Quality Weapons and Gear. However, these challenges don't extend to previously explored regions, nor do they unlock new ones. Unfortunately, after completing the game, you won't see how your choices have reshaped the Living Lands, which can feel somewhat limiting.
With the absence of New Game Plus and traditional endgame content, *Avowed's* post-game offerings may seem sparse. Upon finishing the final encounter, you'll be treated to several minutes of animatic cutscenes that illustrate the consequences of your choices on the world and its inhabitants. Once these cutscenes conclude, you'll return to the Main Menu.
From the Main Menu, you have the option to embark on a new journey with a different Envoy or reload a previous save. Autosaves from just before the point of no return and before the final encounter allow you to replay these sections, making different decisions to witness varied story outcomes and endings.
Reloading to a save before the point of no return also enables you to revisit earlier regions. This is a great opportunity to clear out any remaining side quests, collect missed items, and earn achievements. Since enemies in these regions won't scale to your level, returning to places like Dawnshore with your high-level gear can be incredibly fun.
And that's what happens after you beat *Avowed*.
