Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming RPG, will achieve a 60 frames-per-second (fps) frame rate on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in a MinnMax interview. While she didn't elaborate on specifics, the Xbox Series S version will remain capped at 30fps, as previously announced.
Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes (60fps with lower visuals vs. 30fps with enhanced visuals) remains unconfirmed. It's possible the 60fps target is the default setting for the Xbox Series X.
The game's release date features a staggered rollout based on edition pricing. The premium edition, priced at $89.99, launches February 13th, while the standard $69.99 edition arrives on February 18th. This pricing strategy, though becoming more common among publishers, has already been abandoned by some, such as Ubisoft.
Sharing the universe of Pillars of Eternity, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and agency. Players will unravel mysteries, navigate conflicts, and build relationships (or rivalries) within a rich narrative tapestry of war and intrigue.
IGN's final preview lauded Avowed's engaging dialogue, freedom of player action, and overall enjoyable gameplay, stating, "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
