In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, like its predecessors, players engage in intense combat across ancient China, eventually aligning themselves with a specific warlord and faction. This guide explains the faction selection process.
Understanding Factions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
The game unfolds across chapters. The first two chapters feature the Wanderer, the player character, acting independently. They assist Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei in various battles, participating in significant events like the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate.
Chapter 3 introduces the crucial faction choice. Players are given several battles to better understand each faction before committing.
Choosing Your Faction
To ally with a faction, complete a specific number of missions: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Upon completion, a mission requiring a faction choice unlocks. Only factions with completed missions are selectable. For instance, completing Cao Cao's missions first will present a choice between Cao Cao and Liu Bei, with Liu Bei unavailable until his missions are finished. Players can complete all missions before committing.
The chosen faction is locked in for the remainder of the game. Side quests from the unchosen factions become inaccessible, preventing further bond increases with their officers. This can impact gameplay difficulty; for example, aligning with Liu Bei, who initially has fewer commanding officers, limits early skill point acquisition opportunities.
Each faction offers unique missions. To experience all content, create a save before choosing a faction to replay with different allegiances.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
