Civilization 7 Coming to VR: Sid Meier's Surprise Reveal

Firaxis Games is bringing the recently released Civilization VII to virtual reality. Sid Meier's Civilization VII - VR, the franchise's first VR title, will launch Spring 2025 exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets.

Developed by PlaySide Studios (known for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and Meta Horizon Worlds), Civilization VII - VR offers a unique gameplay experience.

Here's the official description:

Experience Civilization VII like never before. The game world unfolds on a Command Table, allowing players to zoom in for intricate details or survey the grand strategic view. Interact directly with world leaders, forging alliances or declaring war across the ages.

Play in immersive VR or mixed reality, seamlessly switching between modes. VR transports players to a personalized museum overlooking their empire, while mixed reality adapts the Command Table to your physical space. Detailed dioramas in The Archives showcase your accomplishments. Engage in online multiplayer with up to three other players.

The PC and console versions of Civilization VII, currently available via early access, have received mixed reception. Steam reviews cite UI issues, limited map variety, and missing features.

Firaxis has addressed this feedback, promising UI improvements, cooperative multiplayer teams, and expanded map types.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN, acknowledged the negative reviews but expressed confidence in the game's long-term success, describing its initial performance as "very encouraging."
