Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, reportedly declined a Sony offer for PlayStation 5 exclusivity.
Pearl Abyss remains committed to self-publishing Crimson Desert. In a statement to Eurogamer, the developer confirmed its independent publishing plans, previously announced during a public earnings call. While acknowledging and appreciating its business partners, Pearl Abyss emphasized its ongoing discussions about various collaborative opportunities.
A playable Crimson Desert build will be showcased to media this week in Paris and to the public at G-Star in November. The developer also clarified that no release date has been set, dismissing recent articles about release dates as speculation.
September investor meetings revealed Sony's attempt to secure Crimson Desert as a PS5 exclusive, potentially excluding Xbox for a period. However, Pearl Abyss opted for self-publishing, believing it would yield greater profitability.
While official confirmation is pending, Crimson Desert is anticipated to launch on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms around Q2 2025. The final platform lineup and precise release date remain unannounced.
