Death Stranding Film Finds Its Director

by Olivia Feb 17,2026

Reports indicate that Michael Sarnoski, the director of 'A Quiet Place: Day One', is in talks to write and direct the live-action film adaptation of Kojima Productions' 'Death Stranding'.

According to Deadline, Sarnoski will helm the project with A24 and Kojima Productions serving as producers, alongside Square Peg. Sarnoski previously wrote and directed both the 'A Quiet Place' spin-off, 'Day One', and the 2021 film 'Pig' starring Nicolas Cage. He is also set to write and direct the upcoming A24 project, 'The Death of Robin Hood'.

Specific details about the live-action 'Death Stranding' adaptation remain scarce. The acclaimed 2019 video game tasked players with traversing a post-apocalyptic wasteland to reconnect a fractured America following a cataclysmic event, all while evading terrifying creatures and navigating surreal phenomena. The game's inherently cinematic nature and Hideo Kojima's directorial flair provide a strong foundation for a feature film.

The original game boasted an ensemble cast featuring Norman Reedus as protagonist Sam Bridges, alongside Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley. It remains to be seen whether these actors will return to portray their characters in the live-action version.

The 'Death Stranding' universe continues to expand, as Kojima Productions recently confirmed 'Death Stranding 2: On the Beach' will launch on PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025. The sequel has also added new talent to its cast, including actors Luca Marinelli and Elle Fanning.

Fans will hope this Kojima adaptation progresses smoothly, especially as updates on the long-gestating 'Metal Gear Solid' movie have slowed. Given its stellar cast and visually striking, narrative-driven world, 'Death Stranding' appears well-suited for a transition to live-action cinema.
