Director Eggers to Pen and Helm 'Labyrinth' Sequel

by Julian Feb 19,2025

Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth.

According to Variety, Eggers will helm this new chapter, penning the script alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. This sequel follows previous attempts, most notably with Scott Derrickson (director of Sinister) attached. However, with no progress since 2023, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted for Eggers' vision.

PlayThe original 1986 Labyrinth, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows Connelly's character as she journeys through a fantastical realm to rescue her kidnapped baby brother, aided by a cast of Henson puppets.

Eggers' plate is full beyond Labyrinth. He's also directing a werewolf film, Werwulf, aiming for a Christmas 2026 release. Details are scarce, but the film is set in 13th-century England, utilizing authentic Old English dialogue. One can safely assume werewolf transformations will feature prominently.

Eggers' Nosferatu, a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film, premiered last Christmas. Set in 19th-century Germany, it follows a real estate agent's unsettling encounter with a Transylvanian count, leading to vampiric horrors for him and his wife.

Nosferatu garnered four Oscar nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. Read our Nosferatu review here.
