Dishonored 2 Receives Unexpected Anniversary Update

Unexpected Update for Dishonored 2 on Multiple Platforms

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, has received a small, unanticipated update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. The patch, a mere 230MB on Steam (requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), appears to focus on bug fixes and language file updates.

Developed by Arkane Lyon (currently working on Marvel's Blade), Dishonored 2, released in late 2016, introduced Emily Kaldwin as a playable protagonist, expanding upon the original's acclaimed gameplay and level design. This update arrives amidst industry shifts, including the closure of Arkane Austin (developer of the original Dishonored and Prey) in 2024.

The update's lack of a highly requested 60 FPS mode has disappointed some fans. While other Arkane titles offer 60 FPS performance on newer consoles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS. The possibility of a future 60 FPS patch, perhaps coinciding with the game's tenth anniversary in 2026, remains speculative. The absence of Arkane Austin also casts doubt on the timeline for a potential third mainline Dishonored installment.

With Arkane Lyon's current focus on Marvel's Blade, a new Dishonored game seems a distant prospect. The update, while small, serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of Dishonored 2, even as its developers move onto new projects.
