The dedicated DOOM modding community continues to push boundaries, with recent achievements showcasing the game's remarkable portability. A tech enthusiast, NyanSatan, successfully ran the classic DOOM on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter.
The adapter, as NyanSatan explains, utilizes iOS-based firmware and a processor clocked at up to 168 MHz. The process involved accessing the adapter's firmware and then executing the game, using a MacBook to provide necessary memory, as the adapter itself lacks internal storage.
Meanwhile, news on an upcoming DOOM iteration reveals a focus on accessibility. DOOM: The Dark Ages will allow players to significantly adjust the game's difficulty. This includes modifying demon aggression, enemy damage, projectile speed, and damage taken. Further customization options will affect the game's overall pace, aggression levels, and parry timing, exceeding the customization options in previous id Software titles.
Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the game's accessibility, stating that the studio aimed to make it playable for a broad audience. He also confirmed that prior DOOM experience, specifically with DOOM: The Dark Ages, isn't necessary to understand the narrative of either DOOM: The Dark Ages or DOOM: Eternal.
