Despite initial appearances, the success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard is undeniable. However, recent reports concerning BioWare have cast a shadow over this triumph.
Online chatter, originating from sources described as "agenda fighters," claimed BioWare Edmonton's closure and the departure of The Veilguard's game director. Eurogamer journalists lend some credence to this, confirming at least the departure of Corinne Boucher in the coming weeks. Boucher, an 18-year EA veteran, has primarily worked on The Sims franchise.
Eurogamer, however, remains uncertain about the alleged closure of BioWare's Dragon Age development team, classifying it as pure speculation.
Critical reception of The Veilguard is divided. While some hail it as a return to form, a BioWare masterpiece, others view it as a solid, albeit flawed, RPG lacking true greatness.
At the time of writing, Metacritic shows no overwhelmingly negative reviews. Many reviewers laud the gameplay, particularly its dynamic and engaging action RPG elements, demanding player engagement, especially on higher difficulty settings.
Yet, this praise isn't universal. VGC, for example, criticizes the gameplay as feeling outdated, lacking innovation or originality.
