Dragon Quest 3 Remake: How to Get the Yellow Orb

This guide explains how to obtain the elusive Yellow Orb in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. While the process is relatively simple, its location and acquisition are cleverly hidden.

Finding Merchantburg (???)

The Yellow Orb resides in Merchantburg, a town initially unnamed and displayed as "???" on the map. Its name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave there.

Merchantburg's location is revealed after obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga. With quest markers enabled, it's found in the northeast corner of the world map, accessible by sailing west from the eastern continent's coast.

Optimal Timing for Merchantburg

While orb collection order is flexible, visiting Merchantburg early is recommended. The town requires significant growth time before yielding the Yellow Orb. Establishing it early allows for parallel progress on other orbs.

Obtaining the Yellow Orb

1. Hire a Merchant: Before heading to Merchantburg, hire a new merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route to protect your new recruit.

2. Establish Merchantburg: In Merchantburg's sole building, speak to the old man. Offer your newly hired merchant to establish the town. The merchant will leave your party, and the town will receive its name.

3. Merchantburg's Growth:

After establishing Merchantburg, focus on obtaining the Purple (Orochi's Lair) and Blue (Gaia's Navel) Orbs. You'll receive notifications prompting your return to Merchantburg as it grows through five stages. Each visit reveals a larger town, culminating in a large cabaret. On your fourth visit, note the merchant's growing unpopularity.

4. The Yellow Orb's Location:

   On your fifth and final visit (at night), the merchant will be absent. The townsfolk have revolted, imprisoning him in the house south of his former residence. Speak to the imprisoned merchant to learn the Yellow Orb's location. Return to the merchant's house; the orb is hidden behind the sofa, marked by a quest marker.

The Yellow Orb is typically acquired near the end, after obtaining the Red (Pirate's Den), Green (Theddon), and Silver (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine) Orbs.
