In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, there's no direct sprint button; your character will naturally transition into a sprint after a few steps of running. While sprinting is a quick way to move around, navigating the vast battlefields to reach other officers in time to save them and secure victory can be challenging.

This is where your horse becomes invaluable. You can summon your horse at any time in the overworld or during battles, and even engage in combat from horseback for swift hit-and-run tactics. Here's how you can unlock your first horse, level it up, and switch between different horses.

How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

You can obtain your first horse for free during Chapter 1 by interacting with a merchant who appears in the overworld. After completing the second major battle, "Test Of Zheng Fei," the merchant will be available on your journey to the Battle Of Guangzong. Head northeast from Wan Castle but before reaching the camp, and you'll find the merchant standing next to his horse. Engage in conversation with him, and he'll gift you the horse, which will be automatically equipped.

To summon your horse and mount it instantly, press down on the left joystick if you're playing on a console, or press V if you're using a keyboard.

How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Your horse gains XP from missions you complete while it's equipped, regardless of whether you actively use it. Completing main story battles and missions (marked by a red diamond with a soldier icon) will contribute to your horse's XP, but skirmishes do not. The amount of XP your horse earns is influenced by the battle's duration, how much you ride, and how often you charge into enemies. As your horse levels up, it will unlock unique buffs at various intervals, which differ for each horse.

How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

While your first horse is automatically equipped, you'll have opportunities to acquire and switch to other horses. You can manage your horses in the Battle Preparation menu, which is the last option on the left side of the screen. Each horse comes with different perks, and some are inherently faster or more advantageous than others, so it's wise to consider switching when you acquire a new one. To obtain new horses, you must raise the peace level of a region to its maximum, after which a new horse will be available as a reward at a nearby waypoint.
