New Evidence of Rumored Elder Scrolls 4 Remake Surfaces

Oblivion Remake Hints Emerge: Unreal Engine 5 and 2025 Release Speculation

A LinkedIn profile belonging to a game developer strongly suggests an Oblivion remake is underway, utilizing Unreal Engine 5. This fuels ongoing speculation about a potential reveal at an Xbox Developer Direct in 2025, although the event itself remains unconfirmed. The anticipation is high, further amplified by fans' fervent desire for a new Elder Scrolls VI trailer within the same year.

The rumor mill surrounding an Oblivion remake has churned for years, with a 2023 prediction suggesting a 2024 or 2025 launch. Xbox insider Jez Corden added fuel to the fire in late December 2024, forecasting a January 2025 unveiling during an Xbox Developer Direct. Given past Developer Directs in January 2023 and 2024, this possibility holds significant weight. The latest development, however, significantly bolsters the circulating rumors.

A Technical Art Director at Virtuos, the studio reportedly working on the project, lists an "unannounced Unreal Engine 5 remake for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S" on their LinkedIn profile. While the game isn't explicitly named, the strong implication, coupled with the Unreal Engine 5 specification (suggesting a remake rather than a remaster), points towards Oblivion. This coincides with earlier reports of a Fallout 3 remaster in late 2023, though its current status remains unclear.

LinkedIn Profile Strengthens Oblivion Remake Claims

Released in 2006, Oblivion, the sequel to 2002's Morrowind, garnered widespread critical acclaim for its expansive open world, visuals, and soundtrack. Since 2012, the dedicated Skyblivion modding community has been recreating Oblivion within Skyrim's engine. A recent video update from the Skyblivion team hints at a 2025 release for their ambitious project.

The future of the Elder Scrolls franchise remains somewhat shrouded in mystery. The sole trailer for Elder Scrolls VI, released in 2018, offers limited insight. Bethesda Game Studios has indicated it will follow Starfield as their next major undertaking, with director Todd Howard suggesting a release timeframe of "15 to 17 years after Skyrim." While a concrete release window is still pending, fans are eagerly anticipating a new trailer before the end of 2025.
