Following a recent resumption, Square Enix has temporarily halted automatic housing demolition timers in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers. This action, affecting players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers, is a direct response to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. The company will announce a resumption date once the situation is assessed.
The standard 45-day demolition timer is a measure to free up housing plots for inactive players and Free Companies. Players can reset their timers by simply logging into their homes. However, Square Enix regularly implements temporary suspensions to accommodate real-world events impacting player accessibility, such as natural disasters. Previous pauses have been enacted in response to events like Hurricane Helene.
This latest suspension commenced on Thursday, January 9th, 2025, at 11:20 PM Eastern Time, just one day after the previous moratorium ended. While no restart date has been provided, homeowners can continue to reset their timers by visiting their properties.
The impact of the wildfires extends beyond the game; the popular web series Critical Role adjusted its schedule, and an NFL playoff game was relocated. This unexpected pause adds to the already eventful start of 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players, who also recently benefited from a free login campaign. The duration of the current suspension remains uncertain.
