Scrapped Powerpuff Girls Live-Action Trailer Leaks

by Layla Jan 16,2026

In 2023, The CW canceled a live-action series starring adult versions of the Powerpuff Girls following widely reported production issues. Now, a new teaser has emerged online, offering a glimpse of what the show might have been—and it’s, at the very least, intriguing.

Originally shared on the YouTube channel "Lost Media Busters," the three-and-a-half-minute teaser was removed after a copyright claim from Warner Bros. Entertainment. The trailer sets up the show’s premise: Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup have grown up and moved out. Chloe Bennet’s Blossom is overworked and burned out, Dove Cameron’s Bubbles has turned to alcohol, and Yana Perrault’s Buttercup has grown rebellious, openly rejecting traditional gender roles.

The trailer shows the three accidentally killing a man named Mojo and fleeing Townsville. Years later, they return to visit their father, Professor Utonium (Donald Faison), only to find Mojo’s adult son, Jojo, now the town’s mayor. Jojo has brainwashed the citizens and is out for revenge. The teaser leans into edgy humor, with jokes referencing juggalos and Buttercup quipping that Jojo has a "hate-boner" for Blossom.

The CW confirmed to Variety that the footage is authentic but clarified the trailer was never officially released or intended for public viewing.

Development on the live-action Powerpuff Girls series was first reported in 2020, but the project was shelved in 2023 after several hurdles—including a weak initial pilot and Bennet's exit.

“We produce pilots to identify what works, and in this instance, it simply didn’t,” CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz said at the time. “We have full confidence in the cast, the writers Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier, and the creative direction of Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros. While this version didn’t succeed, we recognized enough potential to warrant a fresh approach. The tone felt overly campy and less grounded than we aimed for. Testing revealed where we needed to adjust, so we decided to step back and restart the development process.”
