Hori’s Pir Cupsanha Plant camera, officially licensed by Nintendo, is more affordable than Nintendo’s $49.99 camera. Notably, the Nintendo Switch 2 supports its own camera accessory or any compatible USB-C camera. Both cameras are set to launch alongside the Switch 2 on June 5.

The Piranha Plant camera offers unique features. Its webcam component detaches from the pot, allowing placement directly on the Switch 2 for enhanced portability compared to Nintendo’s camera. Additionally, the plant’s mouth can close to cover the lens.

Hori’s Piranha Plant camera delivers only 480p resolution.

Nintendo enthusiasts expressed disbelief at the Piranha Plant’s 480p resolution. “How is a 480p camera even a thing in 2025?” asked redditor Ramen536Pie. “It’s probably tougher to make than a 1080p one.”

“That’s honestly comical,” quipped LizardsoftheGhost. “Feels like this was meant for the Wii U era.”

“Isn’t 480p basically illegal now?” joked pokemonfitness1420.

At last week’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2’s GameChat feature, activated by pressing the C button on the new Joy-Con.

Players can watch each other play the same or different games and, with a camera, see one another. A built-in microphone, reliable across various gaming environments, enhances the experience. The C button’s chat menu serves as a comprehensive multiplayer hub, potentially marking Nintendo’s strongest online feature in years.
