by Layla Jan 06,2026

Following today's Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo officially announced the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 console at $449.99.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5, 2025, with full specifications revealed today ahead of pre-orders opening April 9.

"The Nintendo Switch 2 represents the evolution of home gaming that goes anywhere, building on eight years of innovation since the original Switch," stated Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa.

"Featuring groundbreaking new capabilities that redefine gaming experiences, we're confident the Switch 2 will significantly advance our mission to bring joy through Nintendo's unique entertainment."

The Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle carries a $499.99 MSRP in North America, including the system and digital download code for Mario Kart World (available June 5). Purchased separately, Mario Kart World retails for $79.99 - making the bundle effectively offer $30 savings.

While console pricing always generates discussion, the Switch 2's cost has drawn particular scrutiny given current economic conditions. As industry analysts noted in January, factors like supply chain challenges and potential tariffs may have influenced Nintendo's pricing strategy. That said, market experts predict strong launch sales regardless of price point.
