Nintendo Switch Pro Rumored to Boast Enhanced Storage Capacity

Leaked GameStop SKUs Suggest Nintendo Switch 2 Will Support microSD Express Cards

Recent leaks suggest the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will boast significant storage improvements, potentially supporting microSD Express cards. This revelation comes from several GameStop stock keeping units (SKUs) seemingly related to unreleased Switch 2 accessories. Reddit user Opposite-Chemistry96 shared images of these SKUs, listing "Switch 2 Exp Micro SD Card" options in 256GB and 512GB capacities.

This points towards a substantial upgrade from the current Switch's UHS-I microSD card support. The microSD Express standard offers dramatically faster transfer speeds and higher storage capacities.

Speed and Capacity Enhancements:

The Switch's UHS-I cards offer theoretical maximum transfer speeds around 104 MB/s, with real-world speeds typically reaching approximately 95 MB/s. In contrast, microSD Express cards can achieve speeds nearing 985 MB/s—a significant 900% increase. This boost is attributed to the use of the NVMe protocol, similar to high-performance SSDs, enabling highly parallel data transfer.

Capacity also sees a massive jump. While UHS-I cards max out at 2TB, microSD Express cards can reach up to 128TB—a 6300% improvement.

Pricing and Other Leaks:

Based on the leaked GameStop data, the 256GB Switch 2 microSD Express card is listed at $49.99, while the 512GB version is priced at $84.99. Additional SKUs revealed carrying cases for the Switch 2, priced at $19.99 and $29.99 for standard and deluxe versions, respectively.

These leaks, alongside numerous others surfacing since Q4 2024, suggest the Switch 2 is nearing release. Rumors point to mass production commencing in late 2024, possibly as early as September. Nintendo has stated it will unveil the console before the end of its fiscal year (March 31, 2025), leaving a limited window for an official announcement.

Comparison Table: UHS-I vs. microSD Express

Feature UHS-I microSD Express
Transfer Speed ~95 MB/s ~985 MB/s
Max Capacity 2TB 128TB

The leaked information strongly hints at the Switch 2 offering a substantial upgrade in storage technology, promising significantly faster load times and greater game storage capacity.
