Overwatch 2 Finally Returning to China

by George Feb 02,2025

Overwatch 2's highly anticipated return to China is set for February 19th, following a two-year absence. A technical test will precede the launch, commencing on January 8th and running until the 15th, allowing Chinese players a sneak peek at the game's updated content.

This relaunch marks the end of a period where Chinese players missed 12 seasons of updates, including six new heroes (Lifeweaver, Illari, Mauga, Venture, Juno, and Hazard), new game modes (Flashpoint and Clash), maps (Antarctic Peninsula, Samoa, and Runasapi), story missions (Invasion), and numerous hero reworks and balance changes.

The partnership between Blizzard and NetEase concluded in January 2023, resulting in the unavailability of several Blizzard titles in China. However, a renewed agreement in April 2024 paved the way for the return of Overwatch 2.

The comeback is further celebrated with the announcement of the Overwatch Championship Series in 2025, featuring a dedicated China region. The inaugural live event will be held in Hangzhou, signifying the game's triumphant re-entry into the Chinese market. While the 2025 Lunar New Year event might conclude shortly before the game's official return, Blizzard may consider a follow-up event to ensure Chinese players don't miss out on the festivities. The return of Overwatch 2 to China promises a significant influx of players and a renewed competitive landscape.
