Brosnan Eyes Doctor Fate Return in Man of Tomorrow

by Madison Mar 14,2026

A familiar face is eager to return. That face belongs to Pierce Brosnan, famously known for his iconic stint as 007, James Bond. However, his desired comeback isn't as the legendary spy. He's keen to reprise his role as Doctor Fate in James Gunn's upcoming "Man of Tomorrow," a return the actor has heard is in the works for the new DC Universe.

"I’ve heard that Doctor Fate might get his own series or film," Brosnan mentioned in a recent GQ interview. "I’ve also heard he could appear in the new Superman movie. I deeply appreciated the philosophy of that character and would certainly be open to returning."

Doctor Fate's reappearance in "Man of Tomorrow" would be a fascinating development. Brosnan portrayed the character just once in the 2022 film "Black Adam," where, notably, Doctor Fate met his end. Furthermore, that film belonged to the old DCEU, the shared universe predating James Gunn and Peter Safran's leadership.

That said, the new DCU has already reintroduced characters from the previous era, so Brosnan's Fate would join several others making a comeback.

The real question is how Gunn and his team would accomplish this. The most plausible scenario involves Brosnan returning as a new iteration of the character. Gunn's "Superman" film subtly lays the groundwork for this possibility, particularly with a mural in the Hall of Justice depicting key Justice Society of America heroes, a team Doctor Fate is part of. The opportunity is clearly there.

However, there is no official confirmation yet that Doctor Fate will join the new DCU in "Man of Tomorrow," nor is there any word on potential spinoff projects for the character.

"Man of Tomorrow" is scheduled for release in theaters on July 9, 2027.
