PlayStation Stars Discontinued After 3 Years

by Charlotte Dec 03,2025

Sony has quietly pulled the plug on its PlayStation Stars loyalty program just shy of its third anniversary. The rewards initiative stopped accepting new members as of today, with departing participants unable to re-enroll - they'll see their accumulated points vanish permanently upon cancellation.

Current members aren't left entirely empty-handed though; they can keep earning points through July 23, 2025, and have until November 3, 2026 to cash in any remaining balances.

PlayIn a silver lining for collectors, Sony confirms Digital Collectibles will remain viewable indefinitely, meaning those quirky 3D models like the now-legendary Jim Ryan bobblehead won't disappear from shelves just yet.

"Through operating this program, we gained valuable insights about what activities resonate most with our gaming community," explained Grace Chen, PlayStation's VP of Network Advertising, Loyalty and Licensed Merchandise. "As a company committed to evolution, we've made the strategic decision to sunset the current iteration of PlayStation Stars while exploring new applications for what we've learned."

The announcement notably lacks details about any potential replacement program, leaving PlayStation fans guessing about Sony's future loyalty plans.

Originally launched in mid-2022, PlayStation Stars aimed to reward PS5 owners with redeemable points for PlayStation Store purchases alongside engagement-based bonuses like completing surveys or trying new game features. The program emerged as a competitor to Microsoft's Xbox Rewards - though both platforms have gradually dialed back their rewards generosity over time.

The service already showed signs of struggle when it vanished for a month during summer 2023. Last October brought further reductions, slashing point validity periods in half and removing PlayStation Plus subscriptions from eligible purchases. Now Sony has decided to shutter the entire operation.
