Select Button, the original developer of Pokémon Sleep, is handing over the reins to Pokémon Works, a newly established Pokémon Company subsidiary. This change impacts the game's ongoing development and future updates.
Announced via the Japanese Pokémon Sleep app, the transition from Select Button to Pokémon Works signifies a shift in development and operational responsibilities. The announcement stated that development and operation of Pokémon Sleep were previously shared between Select Button and The Pokémon Company, but will now gradually transfer to Pokémon Works. The impact on the global version of the game remains to be seen, as this news hasn't yet appeared in the global app's news section.
Pokémon Works, a relatively new entity, is a joint venture between The Pokémon Company and Iruka Co., Ltd. Its representative director, Takuya Iwasaki, highlights the company's mission to create more immersive Pokémon experiences. Interestingly, Pokémon Works shares a location with ILCA, the studio behind Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes, suggesting a strong connection within the Pokémon development ecosystem. Mr. Iwasaki also confirmed Pokémon Works' prior contribution to Pokémon HOME.
While the specifics of how this transition will affect Pokémon Sleep's future remain unclear, the promise of a more "real" Pokémon experience hints at exciting potential developments.
