When Niantic announces new features in *Pokemon GO,* the cost is often the first thing players want to know. So, it came as a pleasant surprise to many that the new *Pokemon GO* Tour Pass is a free feature. But what exactly is it, and how does it work?

What Is a Tour Pass in *Pokemon GO*?

The Tour Pass is a fresh addition to the game, debuting with the Global event for *Pokemon GO* Tour: Unova. This pass enables players to engage in various tasks to accumulate Tour Points. These points can be redeemed to unlock rewards, elevate your rank, and enhance event bonuses during the GO Tour Unova event.

The Tour Pass is free and automatically granted to players when the *Pokemon GO* Tour: Unova event kicks off on February 24 at 10 AM local time. However, for those looking for an enhanced experience, there's a paid option called the Tour Pass Deluxe. Priced at $14.99 USD or its local equivalent, it offers an instant encounter with Victini, along with upgraded rewards and faster progression through the Tour Pass levels.

How Do You Earn Tour Points & What Do They Do?

Earning Tour Points is akin to completing the familiar research tasks in *Pokemon GO.* You can earn points by catching Pokemon, participating in raids, and hatching eggs. Additionally, there are special Pass Tasks designed to boost your points, which refresh daily during the GO Tour event.

Accumulating Tour Points allows players to unlock various rewards, including items and Pokemon encounters, as well as to increase their rank within the Tour Pass tiers. Advancing through the tiers not only grants you rewards but also enhances your Catch XP bonus during *Pokemon GO* Tour: Unova:

• 1.5× Catch XP upon reaching Tier 2
• 2× Catch XP upon reaching Tier 3
• 3× Catch XP upon reaching Tier 4

While Niantic has kept some of the rewards under wraps with a "stay tuned for more details" message, we do know that the highest reward tier in the free Tour Pass will grant an encounter with Zorua, complete with a special background. On the other hand, the Tour Pass Deluxe's final reward is a new item called a Lucky Trinket.

What Is a Lucky Trinket?

The Lucky Trinket is an exclusive reward for those who purchase the Tour Pass Deluxe. It's the pinnacle of the deluxe path rewards, obtainable only by dedicated players during the GO Tour Global event. This one-time-use item has a unique ability: it can turn one of your friends into a Lucky Friend instantly. This allows you to trade with them and receive a Lucky Pokemon, without the need to be Best Friends. However, you must be at least Great Friends to use the Lucky Trinket.

Keep in mind that Lucky Trinkets acquired during GO Tour: Unova will expire on March 9, 2025, making them a limited-time opportunity.
