Pokémon TCG Pocket update introduces trading, set for autumn release

by Camila Apr 27,2025

The launch of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket was met with excitement, but it quickly hit a snag with its trading system. Initially, the trading feature was criticized for its cumbersome requirements and restrictive nature, but a recent update promises significant improvements.

The most notable change is the complete removal of Trading Tokens. Now, to trade cards of three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star rarity, players will use Shinedust. This new currency is earned by opening booster packs and receiving cards already registered in your Card Dex. If you have existing Trading Tokens, they can be converted into Shinedust, which is also used to obtain flair, indicating further updates are on the horizon. Additionally, an upcoming feature will allow players to share cards they're interested in trading through an in-game function.

As previously mentioned, the initial implementation of trading in Pokémon TCG Pocket seemed half-hearted. The digital nature of the game necessitates more restrictions to prevent abuse compared to physical trading, but these measures were seen as overly restrictive. The promised changes, although welcome, are slated to roll out no sooner than autumn, leaving players waiting through spring and summer. This slow pace of updates has left many fans wishing for a faster resolution.
