Resident Evil 9 Unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025

by Lily Dec 11,2025

The wait is over: Resident Evil 9 has been officially revealed during Summer Game Fest 2025.

Titled Resident Evil Requiem, this single-player survival horror experience launches February 27, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

SGF host Geoff Keighley described Resident Evil Requiem as representing "a dramatic evolution for the franchise in both tone and gameplay," promising "cinematic action sequences" layered atop classic survival horror elements.

Breaking Down the Debut Trailer

The newly released trailer suggests players may return to a devastated Raccoon City – destroyed years earlier in Resident Evil 3 – with environmental shots hinting at potential open-world mechanics. Ruins of the iconic Raccoon City Police Department make a brief appearance.

The footage introduces FBI technical analyst Grace Ashcroft as a potential new protagonist investigating mysterious fatalities. Forced to revisit her mother's murder scene, Grace must confront her traumatic past.

A chilling scene shows Grace restrained while an ominous voice declares: "I've finally found you... my special one. My chosen one." This raises questions – is Grace the sole playable character? Will franchise veterans like Leon Kennedy appear?

While Capcom's official site remains mysterious, it hints at "groundbreaking technological innovations" and "deeply immersive character-driven gameplay."

The official description reads:

Requiem for the dead. Nightmare for the living.
Resident Evil Requiem marks the ninth core installment.
Experience terrifying new survival horror mechanics designed to unsettle even veteran players.
Launching in 2026, this represents a technological leap forward combining cutting-edge innovation with the developers' unparalleled horror expertise.

Capcom first teased this project last summer, following up with another cryptic hint during recent Resident Evil 4 Remake celebrations. That 2023 remake earned IGN's prestigious 10/10 rating, praised as "the definitive realization of the franchise's action-horror potential."
