Silksong Steam Update Fuels Release Date Speculation

by Ava Jan 16,2026

Another day, another update to Hollow Knight: Silksong on SteamDB, sending its information-starved fanbase into a frenzy. Could this finally be the one we've been waiting for?

Overnight, Hollow Knight: Silksong received a quiet update on Steam. SteamDB noted that one of its packages was updated for the first time in over a year (thanks, Eurogamer). This immediately set the rumor mill spinning, with players speculating that something must be brewing. Could we see more at Summer Game Fest? Might it feature in the Xbox Showcase? Or could there even be a surprise Nintendo Switch 2 shadow drop…?!

Naturally, fans began scouring the update for clues. While some have been disappointed by false alarms in the past, this particular update is especially exciting. Several fans believe there is proof that Hollow Knight: Silksong — or at least a version of it — has now "been uploaded to the Steam servers."

Just to make it clear... THE GAME FILES HAVE BEEN UPLOADED

"[Is this R]eal?" asked one hopeful fan. "Real," the original poster replied.

Team Cherry has always operated on its own schedule and is famously tight-lipped, leaving the community to pore over the smallest—and sometimes silliest—details. This time, however, it genuinely feels like something is on the horizon. Here's hoping we find out what that is sooner rather than later.

Team Cherry's sequel remains one of the world's most anticipated games, topping Steam wishlists for years. Silksong made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct in April, after which Team Cherry confirmed a 2025 release window, much to the relief of its patient fans. Given that the game will be playable at Australia's ACMI museum of screen culture starting September 18th, some are speculating a potential launch before that date… though, of course, nothing is confirmed yet.

IGN recently shared an exclusive Silksong sprite sheet, and… well, the internet did what the internet does best.
