"PS Plus Overhaul: Sony Removes PS3 Resistance Games"

by Liam Dec 18,2025

A total of 22 games are scheduled for removal from the PlayStation Plus library next month. This includes major titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the final playable versions of Sony's first-party games, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.

PlayStation Plus is the online service for PlayStation consoles, offering members free monthly games, timed trials, online multiplayer access, and special discounts. Higher-tier Extra and Premium members also gain access to a vast catalog of hundreds of modern and classic games.

As reported by Push Square, the removal of these 22 titles on May 20 notably includes two high-profile first-party PS3 games from Sony, both exiting the PS Plus Premium library.

This exit is particularly significant for Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, as they are no longer available for purchase on the PlayStation Store. The PS Plus Premium streaming service was the last official way to play them without owning the original discs and a functioning PS3. Both titles are being removed less than a year after joining the service in late 2024.

The Resistance franchise is a series of alternate-history first-person shooters developed by Insomniac Games, created after their work on Ratchet & Clank. Three mainline Resistance games launched on PS3 before the studio shifted to projects like Marvel's Spider-Man and new Ratchet & Clank titles.

While it's rare for Sony to pull its own first-party games from this service, it has happened before, as seen with the surprising removal of both Horizon titlesHorizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West—in August 2024. However, those games remained available for purchase after their removal. In contrast, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will become completely inaccessible on modern consoles.

Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will remain available on PS Plus. It's also noteworthy that the more recent first-party PS4 title, InFamous: Second Son, is also part of this departure.

The Resistance series has been inactive for years. In February, Insomniac's founder and former president Ted Price mentioned there was serious consideration for Resistance 4, but the project was never officially approved. Much like Guerrilla Games' Killzone series, the Resistance franchise has been sidelined.
