Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link Officially Cancelled by Square Enix
Square Enix has terminated development of the mobile game Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link, announcing the decision today. While disappointing, this move comes as no major surprise given the company's history of project cancellations.
Originally in development since 2019 with multiple closed beta tests conducted on Android and iOS, the project faced unexpected hurdles. Despite a November 2024 announcement about delays, developers ultimately concluded they couldn't deliver a satisfactory live-service experience for players.
Missing-Link was conceived as an innovative GPS-based adventure set during a lost chapter of the Kingdom Hearts timeline, allowing players to explore real-world locations while battling Heartless. While the concept generated interest, technical execution proved problematic.
Square Enix has redirected resources to Kingdom Hearts IV, initially announced during the franchise's 20th anniversary celebrations in 2022. Fans can take solace that the core series remains actively in development.
