Star Wars: Hunters, Zynga's innovative venture into the Star Wars franchise, will be discontinued less than a year after its debut. Launched in June 2024 for iOS and Android, the game quickly captured attention with its unique game show style and fresh interpretations of iconic Star Wars characters.
The closure is scheduled for October 1st of this year. However, before the game shuts down, a final content update will be released on April 15th. This update will include the last hunter, Tuya, who will be available for free to all players in multiplayer mode. Additionally, players can now request refunds for any in-game currency they've purchased, and certain seasonal events will be rerun as part of an extended third season.
The announcement of the shutdown was unexpected, as there were no prior signs of the game's underperformance. Given Zynga's robust standing in the industry, the decision to discontinue Star Wars: Hunters suggests there may be deeper reasons at play. It's possible that the pseudo-hero shooter genre has become oversaturated, and the target audience, typically older Star Wars fans, might not be as interested in a high-energy mobile multiplayer experience.
For those who haven't yet experienced Star Wars: Hunters, there's still time to dive in before it's discontinued. Don't miss out on the action—check out our tier list of Hunters in SW: Hunters ranked by class to get started!
