Mastering Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake: Essential Tips for Beginners

For fans of classic JRPGs, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake is a nostalgic trip back to the series' roots. However, its old-school difficulty demands strategic preparation. Here are some key tips to aid your quest to vanquish Baramos:

Navigate the Personality Test Wisely

The initial personality quiz, conducted by "She Who Watches Over All," significantly impacts your Hero's stat growth. While personality changes are possible with specific accessories, restarting for your preferred traits is simpler. The optimal choice is "Vamp," exclusive to female Heroes, offering superior stat boosts.

Customize Your Party for Success

In Aliahan, bypass Patty's pre-set party. On the second floor, the innkeeper allows custom party creation, including classes Patty omits. This enables stat allocation and personality influence, creating stronger companions than Patty's defaults. Crucially, always include a Priest for essential healing magic.

Acquire Powerful Early-Game Weapons

Early-game equipment is costly, so acquiring strong weapons is vital. The Boomerang (found in Dreamer's Tower, 3rd floor) and Thorn Whip (obtained in Aliahan's well using two Mini Medals from Morgan Minimann) are invaluable. Their multi-enemy attack capabilities make them perfect for the Hero and a strength-based character like a Warrior or Martial Artist.

Enable "Follow Orders" for Party Control

While often standard, many RPGs restrict party control to AI. In Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake, switch your party's behavior to "Follow Orders" via the in-combat Tactics menu. This seemingly small detail grants crucial control during intense battles.

Stock Up on Chimaera Wings

Early enemies can inflict devastating damage. Fast travel is unavailable until acquiring the Zoom spell (typically around Hero level 8). Until then, keep Chimaera Wings (25 gold each) readily available for quick returns to previously visited locations, even within dungeons. This saves time and prevents party wipeouts.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
