Ubisoft quietly launches a new NFT game: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. This article explores the details of Ubisoft's latest foray into the NFT gaming world.
Ubisoft's Latest NFT Offering
Ubisoft's Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., a top-down multiplayer arcade shooter, was released discreetly on December 20th, as reported by Eurogamer. Gameplay requires cryptocurrency participation.
The game, based on the Netflix series "Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix," expands on the universe of the original Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon DLC. It features familiar Ubisoft IP elements from franchises like Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed.
Access is limited to 10,000 players, each requiring a Citizen ID Card, an NFT acting as a player's in-game record, tracking achievements and rankings. These cards dynamically evolve based on player performance.
To obtain a card, players must purchase an NFT Niji Warrior ID card via Ubisoft's claim page using a crypto wallet. The cost is $25.63. Players can later relinquish their citizenship and resell their IDs, with potential value increases depending on in-game success.
According to Ubisoft's Magic Eden page, the full launch is slated for Q1 2025, with early access for those who secured IDs early.
A Netflix Series Inspired by Far Cry 3
The Netflix series, "Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix," is an animated spin-off of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon expansion. Set in an alternate 1992, the series depicts a United States transformed into Eden, a megacorporation-controlled technocracy.
The story follows Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier, his betrayal, capture, and subsequent role as a Ghost, working against his former accomplice.
While Ubisoft hasn't detailed the game's narrative, it shares the same universe. Players assume the role of Eden citizens, influencing the game's story through mission completion, leaderboard rankings, and community participation.
