Xbox Game Pass Ultimate adds streaming for consoles

by Penelope Dec 10,2025

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members now enjoy an exciting new benefit: streaming select games directly to their consoles without downloads.

Announced today in an Xbox Wire post, the feature allows Ultimate members to stream titles from the Game Pass catalog and certain owned games on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles via cloud streaming.

While previously available on smart TVs, PCs, smartphones and Meta Quest headsets, this marks the first time cloud streaming has reached Xbox consoles. The innovation saves users both download time and valuable storage space.

How to Access Cloud Gaming on Xbox

  • Navigate to My Games & apps > Full library > Owned Games
  • Look for the cloud badge on supported titles
  • Use the Filter > Ready to play > Cloud gaming option
  • Select Play with Cloud Gaming to begin streaming
  • New purchases may stream directly from the Store app

Conversely, players can stream any installed Xbox game to compatible devices via supported web browsers at this link. The functionality no longer works on the Xbox mobile app but remains accessible through mobile browsers. Expansion to Samsung TVs, Amazon Fire devices, and Meta Quest headsets is underway.

Additionally, Xbox revealed that backward compatible Xbox and Xbox 360 games will gain remote play support starting this month.

Microsoft positions these updates as part of broader storage optimization efforts. The latest console update introduces a storage management tool under My Games & Apps > Manage, recommending ways to free up hard drive space.

This initiative responds to increasingly large game file sizes like Call of Duty and Baldur's Gate 3. For players needing additional storage beyond these improvements, particularly those not opting for new Xbox models with expanded built-in storage, various external storage solutions remain available.
