Get ready, Yakuza fans! A Like a Dragon Direct is set for later this week, offering a closer look at Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii before its February release. Unlike recent mainline entries, this installment brings back the fluid, real-time combat reminiscent of the original Kiryu saga, starring Goro Majima in a Hawaiian adventure following the events of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG Studio) made a splash at the 2024 Game Awards, unveiling Virtua Fighter 6 and a new IP, Project Century. While their involvement with Virtua Fighter 6 surprised many, Project Century, a Yakuza-esque action brawler set in 1915 Japan, generated even more buzz, fueling speculation about its connection to the Yakuza/Like a Dragon universe.
The upcoming Like a Dragon Direct, focusing on Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, will stream on YouTube and Twitch this Thursday, January 9th, at 12 PM EST. RGG promises new gameplay reveals while minimizing story spoilers.
Like a Dragon Direct Details:
While much of the combat and minigames have already been showcased, anticipation remains high. Although RGG only explicitly mentioned Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, fans speculate about potential teases of other projects, such as the rumored Yakuza 3 Kiwami remake or even another glimpse of Project Century, though the latter seems less likely given the event's title.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii sets sail on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on February 21st, promising a unique experience amidst a crowded February release lineup including Monster Hunter Wilds, Assassin's Creed Shadows, Avowed, and more. The mystery of what RGG has yet to reveal will soon be solved.
