The release of Shrek 5 will coincide with the franchise's 25th anniversary, as the original film debuted in 2001. It was followed by Shrek 2 in 2004, Shrek the Third in 2007, and Shrek Forever After in 2010. The Shrek universe has also expanded through the Puss in Boots spin-offs, with the first released in 2011 and the critically acclaimed Puss in Boots: The Last Wish in 2022.
