1月29日に実装された期待のトレードシステムでは現在、「ジェネティック・アペックス」と「神話の島」ブースターパックから排出される1-4ダイヤモンドおよび1スター希少度のカードのみ交換可能です。コレクション完成には有用ですが、厳格な制約（限定されたカード選択肢、新通貨要件、高コスト）により多くのプレイヤーが不満を表明しています。
コミュニティの懸念を受け、DeNAは「機能強化に向けて複数のアプローチを検討中」と表明。「特別イベントを通じたトレードトークン獲得方法の拡充」が提案されています。現行システムでは1スターカードのみのトレードが許可されています。
トークン経済システムでは、高希少度カードを対価として供出する必要があり、より価値の高いカードほど多くのトークンを獲得できます。4ダイヤモンドexポケモンのトレードには500トークンが必要ですが、1スターカードのトレードではわずか100トークン、上位層の2スター・3スター没入型カードでも300トークンしか得られません。これによりコレクターは基本的なトレードのためにも複数のレアカードを犠牲にせざるを得ません。
DeNAは厳格なルールについて「ボット乱用やマルチアカウント悪用を防止しつつゲームバランスを維持するための必要措置」と説明。「公平性の維持と、Pokemon TCG Pocket体験の核心であるカードコレクションの楽しさを両立させるのが優先事項です」と述べました。
改善策の詳細はまだ明かされていませんが、開発陣は変更実施前に悪用リスクを慎重に評価しているようです。
1月29日の「時空の激突」ブースターパックリリース後に別の論争が発生。Redditユーザーから、ホーム画面に「神話の島」と「時空の激突」しか表示されず、「ジェネティック・アペックス」が利用不能に見えるとの報告がありました。
しかし実際には、画面右下の「他のブースターパック」を選択すれば全シリーズにアクセス可能です。この機能は表示が小さく直感的でないため、多くのプレイヤーに見落とされていました。
