Two New Halloween Games Announced, Featuring John Carpenter

Halloween Game Announcement

Boss Team Games, celebrated for their work on Evil Dead: The Game, has unveiled plans for two new entries in the Halloween franchise. The exciting news, revealed exclusively through IGN, includes the participation of John Carpenter, the visionary director behind the original 1978 Halloween film. Carpenter, a self-described gaming enthusiast, expressed his eagerness to contribute to a truly terrifying Halloween video game experience.

Halloween Game Development

The games, currently in their early development phases, will leverage the power of Unreal Engine 5. Developed in partnership with Compass International Pictures and Further Front, the titles promise to let players relive iconic moments from the films and inhabit the roles of classic Halloween characters. Boss Team Games CEO, Steve Harris, described the collaboration with Carpenter and the opportunity to work with the Halloween IP as a dream come true.

While specifics remain scarce, the announcement has ignited considerable excitement among fans.

A Sparse Gaming History for a Horror Icon

Halloween Gaming History

The Halloween franchise, a cornerstone of horror cinema, has a surprisingly limited video game presence. The only officially licensed game, released in 1983 for the Atari 2600 by Wizard Video, cast players as a babysitter protecting children from Michael Myers. This rarity has since become a sought-after collectible.

Michael Myers has, however, made appearances in various modern games as DLC. He's a notable addition to Dead by Daylight, and has also featured in Call of Duty: Ghosts and Fortnite.

Halloween Characters

Given the promise of playable classic characters, it's highly anticipated that both Michael Myers and Laurie Strode will be central figures in the upcoming games. This mirrors the enduring conflict between the two characters, a key element of the franchise's success.

The Halloween film series, since its 1978 debut, has produced 13 films:

  • Halloween (1978)
  • Halloween II (1981)
  • Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
  • Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
  • Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
  • Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
  • Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
  • Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
  • Halloween (2007)
  • Halloween (2018)
  • Halloween Kills (2021)
  • Halloween Ends (2022)

Horror Expertise Meets Gaming Passion

John Carpenter and Boss Team Games

Boss Team Games’ proven success with Evil Dead: The Game, developed in collaboration with Saber Interactive, demonstrates their capabilities in the horror genre. The game's critical acclaim and multiple editions, including a Game of the Year release, solidify their expertise.

Carpenter's involvement is a natural fit, given his well-known passion for video games. He's publicly expressed admiration for titles like Dead Space, Fallout 76, Borderlands, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. This blend of horror mastery and gaming enthusiasm promises a truly authentic and thrilling Halloween gaming experience. Fans can anticipate a chilling and immersive adventure as development continues.
