Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that multiple Assassin's Creed remakes are underway. This exciting news was revealed in a recent interview on the Ubisoft website, where Guillemot discussed the franchise's future.
In a recent Ubisoft website interview, CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed several Assassin's Creed remakes are in development, though he didn't specify which titles. He stated, "Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich." Fans can anticipate revitalized classic Assassin's Creed entries.
Guillemot also promised a diverse range of experiences in the coming years, explaining, "There will be plenty of experience variety. The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year."
Upcoming titles like Assassin's Creed Hexe (targeting a 2026 release) and Assassin's Creed Shadows (releasing November 15, 2024), promise unique experiences. Hexe, set in 16th-century Europe, and the mobile game Assassin's Creed Jade (expected in 2025), add to the excitement. Assassin's Creed Shadows, set in feudal Japan, completes the lineup.
Ubisoft has a history of remastering classic titles, including Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection (2016) and Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered (2018). While rumors of an Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake circulated last year, official confirmation is still pending.
Beyond remakes and new titles, Guillemot discussed advancements in game development technology. He highlighted Assassin's Creed Shadows' dynamic weather system, impacting gameplay and visuals. He also emphasized the potential of generative AI to enhance game worlds:
"Technology is evolving at such a pace that there are limitless possibilities for evolution," Guillemot noted. "In Assassin's Creed Shadows, for example, we have a weather system that will affect its gameplay; ponds that were once swimmable might freeze, for instance."
He continued, "Visually, we're also seeing a big step forward for the series. I have also been very vocal about the potential I see in generative AI and how it can enrich NPCs to be more intelligent, more interactive. This could potentially extend to animals in the world, to the world itself. There is still so much we can do to enrich these open worlds to be even more dynamic."
