Baldur's Gate 3 offers a diverse array of romance options, enriching the gameplay experience significantly. These relationships, whether fleeting encounters or enduring bonds, create some of the game's most memorable moments. This guide details each romance option, including strategies to avoid inadvertently locking yourself out of a desired relationship.

All Romance Options in Baldur's Gate 3

Understanding BG3 Romance:

It's crucial to understand that your character's gender doesn't restrict your romantic choices. Every romance option is available regardless of your Tav's characteristics.

Baldur's Gate 3 features two types of romances: long-term relationships that develop throughout the campaign and shorter, one-off encounters. The path to romance varies greatly depending on the character and your approach. Some characters offer casual encounters, while others require a more sustained courtship.

Furthermore, be aware that pursuing multiple romances simultaneously can lock you out of certain relationships. Timing is key; some romantic opportunities have strict deadlines.

All Romanceable Companions:

The following companions are available for romance in Baldur's Gate 3:

  • Shadowheart
  • Gale
  • Astarion
  • Karlach
  • Wyll
  • Lae'zel
  • Halsin
  • Minthara

All One-Off Romance Options:

The following non-companion characters offer short-term romance options:

  • Mizora
  • Guardian/Emperor
  • Drow Twins
  • Haarlep
  • Naoise Nallinto

How to Romance Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3

Shadowheart, often encountered early in the game, presents a readily available romance path. Building her approval rating early on is key. Her romance offers both long-term and short-term possibilities, with opportunities in each act.

Romancing Shadowheart:

  • Keep Shadowheart in your party (highly recommended).
  • Boost her approval by showing kindness, avoiding violence, and respecting her privacy. Supporting her against Lae'zel significantly boosts approval early on.
  • Once approval is high in Act I, look for dialogue options indicating a missed connection. Alternatively, wait for the camp party after rescuing Halsin. A dialogue option should appear. Choose to spend the evening with her, and select positive romantic dialogue options.
  • In Act II, your choice between Selune and Shar doesn't necessarily end the romance. Support her choices to maintain the relationship.
  • In Act III, complete Shadowheart's quest to trigger the final romantic scene.

Special Notes:

  • Under certain circumstances, Shadowheart may end the relationship if you pursue other romantic interests. It's unclear what triggers this, so caution is advised, especially in Honor Mode.

How to Romance Gale in Baldur's Gate 3

Gale, a wizard from Waterdeep, is open to a relationship with the Tav. His romance significantly intertwines with the main storyline.

Romancing Gale:

  • Rescue Gale from the portal.
  • Comply with his requests to consume magical items (up to three instances in Act I).
  • Participate in his magic lesson in Act I, choosing romantic dialogue options.
  • Support Gale during the Act I/II transition cutscene with Elminster.
  • In Act III, keep Gale alive, read "The Annals of Karsus," and speak with him before resting. Choose romantic dialogue options.

Special Notes:

  • Gale is not receptive to open relationships.

How to Romance Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3

Astarion's charming personality makes him a popular romance choice. He's also one of the most open-minded romance partners.

Romancing Astarion:

  • Increase his approval by keeping him in your party and choosing self-serving options.
  • Allowing him to drink your blood boosts your relationship.
  • During the party, choose romantic dialogue options and allow him to bite you.
  • Show interest in his scars in Act I.
  • In Act II, take Raphael's deal to learn more about his scars.
  • In Act III, complete Astarion's quest for the final romantic scenes.

Special Notes:

  • Astarion is the most open-minded long-term partner; pursuing other romances doesn't necessarily end things with him.

How to Romance Karlach in Baldur's Gate 3

Karlach is a fan favorite but requires a sensitive approach to romance. She's fiercely loyal but becomes very upset if you pursue other romantic interests.

Romancing Karlach:

  • Support Karlach against the fake Paladins of Tyr.
  • Obtain Infernal Iron as soon as possible and have Dammon repair her infernal engine.
  • During the party, express your feelings and initiate a romantic encounter.
  • In Act II, use Infernal Iron to further repair her engine.
  • In Act III, take her on a date.

Special Notes:

  • Karlach reacts negatively to other romantic relationships. While reconciliation is possible, avoid other romances.

How to Romance Wyll in Baldur's Gate 3

Wyll's complex personality makes his romance storyline particularly rewarding.

Romancing Wyll:

  • Build Wyll's approval by acting heroically, helping others, and supporting him in his quests.
  • Rescue Halsin and the Tieflings.
  • During the party, choose romantic dialogue options.
  • In Act II, a romantic encounter occurs after a long rest.
  • In Act III, help Wyll save his father and complete his quest with Ansur.

How to Romance Lae'zel in Baldur's Gate 3

Lae'zel shows early romantic interest. Her romance can be a short fling or a long-term relationship.

Romancing Lae'zel:

  • Raise her approval by acting decisively and aggressively.
  • Once approval is high, initiate a romantic conversation.
  • Maintain her approval for a continued relationship in Act II.
  • In Act III, the outcome depends on whether she sides with Vlaakith or Orpheus.

Special Notes:

  • Lae'zel is not open to multiple partners.

How to Romance Halsin in Baldur's Gate 3

Halsin's romance is popular among players.

Romancing Halsin:

  • Rescue Halsin from the Goblin Camp.
  • Complete all of Halsin's quests before the end of Act II.
  • Keep Halsin in your party and show kindness and respect for nature.
  • Once his approval is high enough, he will initiate a romantic encounter.

How to Romance Minthara in Baldur's Gate 3

Minthara's romance is unique due to her role as an antagonist.

Romancing Minthara:

  • Side with Minthara at the Goblin Camp, betraying your party.
  • After defeating the grove, express your allegiance to her.
  • During the goblin party, declare your feelings and initiate a romantic encounter.
