The recent Call of Duty: Warzone update aimed to resolve several bugs, primarily addressing persistent loading screen crashes. However, this patch appears to have introduced new challenges, particularly impacting matchmaking and Ranked Play.
Warzone, a hugely popular battle royale game since its 2020 launch, has seen its share of both lauded and controversial updates. The removal of the Verdansk map and the integration of Black Ops 6 mechanics sparked significant debate among players. Despite these controversies, Warzone maintains a dedicated fanbase thanks to regular updates and additions like Resurgence mode and new maps.
While the update successfully tackled loading screen freezes and minor glitches, it inadvertently created new problems. Reports from CharlieIntel on Twitter highlight significant matchmaking difficulties and critical issues within Ranked Play. These issues reportedly include players phasing under the map and malfunctions at Buy Stations.
These problems are particularly concerning for Ranked Play, the competitive mode of Warzone. While Activision hasn't publicly addressed these issues yet, a swift resolution is anticipated given the frequency of Warzone updates.
Call of Duty's Steam player count has recently declined due to increased competition, cheating concerns, and unpopular choices like the premium Squid Game Battle Pass. Addressing these current technical problems, coupled with potential future additions (like a Verdansk return), could significantly revitalize the game's popularity.
