Carey Mulligan Joins Barbie Director's Narnia Reboot Cast

The eagerly anticipated reboot of the Narnia series, helmed by Greta Gerwig, who recently dazzled audiences with her work on the Barbie movie, has added acclaimed actress Carey Mulligan to its ensemble cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan will join an impressive lineup that includes former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, Sex Education star Emma Mackey, and the legendary Meryl Streep.

Gerwig, known for her unique storytelling and directorial finesse, will once again take on the dual roles of writer and director for this fresh adaptation of C.S. Lewis' iconic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia.

The upcoming film will delve into the prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, setting the stage before the events of the beloved and widely known Narnia tale, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Carey Mulligan, celebrated for her numerous accolades including Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominations, is slated to portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig will bring to life the film's titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey will embody a youthful version of Narnia's notorious antagonist, the White Witch. Adding to the star power, Meryl Streep will lend her voice to the majestic character of Aslan, the series' revered talking lion.

This isn't the first venture of Narnia into cinema. A previous trilogy, released between 2005 and 2010, adapted the initial three books of the series: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. These films featured Tilda Swinton, known from Doctor Strange, as the White Witch, and Liam Neeson, famous from Star Wars, voicing Aslan.

Gerwig's take on Narnia marks her first significant project following the surprising success of her 2023 film, Barbie, which not only starred Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling but also garnered eight Academy Award nominations, triumphing in the category of Best Original Song.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is slated for a release in 2026, promising fans a new and enchanting journey into the world of Narnia.
