"Disney Lorcana's Ninth Set 'Fabled' Launches September 2025, Features Goofy Movie and Iconic Cards"

by Eleanor Jul 15,2025

Disney Lorcana has taken a major step forward with the reveal of its upcoming ninth set, Fabled, set to launch on September 5, 2025. This exciting new chapter brings with it groundbreaking features such as the first-ever Iconic and Epic Cards, alongside the highly anticipated arrival of characters from A Goofy Movie.

In addition to details about Fabled, Disney Lorcana fans were treated to updates regarding the eighth set—Reign of Jafar, scheduled for release on June 6, a brand-new Collection Starter Set, and official news about the Disney Lorcana World Championship. Also teased during the presentation was the inclusion of Darkwing Duck, further expanding the game’s beloved Disney universe.

Let’s dive into all the latest reveals and what they mean for collectors, players, and fans alike.

Fabled: Introducing Iconic and Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Rotating Formats

While much about Fabled remains under wraps, the sneak peeks shared by the Disney Lorcana team have only intensified excitement ahead of its pre-release on August 29 and wide release on September 5.

One of the most significant additions in Fabled is the debut of A Goofy Movie characters, though specific card details are still being kept secret for now. However, the team did confirm that Mickey and Minnie will become the very first Iconic Cards in the game.

Iconic Cards represent the rarest tier in Lorcana moving forward, with only two appearing per set. The inaugural pair features Mickey and Minnie riding a carousel—an artistic highlight that collectors will surely chase.

Joining them are Epic Cards, which sit between Legendary and Enchanted in rarity. These cards will feature exclusive artwork, special foil treatments, and exciting new gameplay elements—such as an upcoming Elsa (Snow Queen) variant.

Another major shift in Fabled is the introduction of card rotation in competitive play. In the new Core Constructed format, cards from the first four sets will no longer be legal for top-tier competition.

However, older cards won’t disappear entirely. A new format called Infinity Constructed will allow players to continue using legacy cards. Additionally, Fabled will include reprinted versions of popular early cards—like Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard)—making them tournament-legal once more.

“To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter,” said Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger. “But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!”

For newcomers looking to jump into the world of Lorcana, the new Collection Starter Set offers a perfect entry point. It includes:

  • Four Fabled booster packs
  • A Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card
  • A card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor)
  • A collector’s guide

This starter set is ideal for both building your collection and discovering the joy of Lorcana gameplay.

Reign of Jafar: Aladdin, Bambi, and a New Co-Op Experience

Set for release on May 30 (pre-release) and June 6 (wide release), Reign of Jafar continues the ongoing narrative featuring one of Disney’s most iconic villains.

With the Hexwell Crown now in his possession, Jafar has twisted Archazia’s Island to his evil will. Traps and illusions dominate this dark landscape, forcing glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber to unite and reclaim the crown.

New Cards and Sets in Reign of Jafar

Fans can look forward to collecting cards such as:

  • Bambi (Prince of the Forest)
  • Flower (Shy Skunk)
  • Thumper (Young Bunny)
  • Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana)
  • Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug)
  • Aladdin (Vigilant Guard)

These cards bring classic characters to life while introducing strategic depth to gameplay.

Additionally, Reign of Jafar introduces Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a new co-op experience-in-a-box designed for four players. Team up to challenge Jafar and his minions in an immersive adventure that blends storytelling with Lorcana mechanics.

Looking Ahead: Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck

The future of Disney Lorcana looks even brighter with hints of what's coming after Fabled. The next set, titled Whispers in the Well, is scheduled for Q4 2025. While few details were shared, concept art teased the inclusion of Mickey, Ariel, and potentially Disney Gargoyles, along with a new type of Glimmer.

Further down the line, longtime fans received long-awaited news: Darkwing Duck is officially joining the Lorcana universe in 2026. This beloved character’s inclusion marks a milestone for collectors and fans of Disney’s broader animated library.

Disney Lorcana World Championship: June 28–29 at Walt Disney World

The competitive side of Lorcana is gaining momentum with the announcement of the Disney Lorcana World Championship, taking place June 28–29 at Walt Disney World Resort.

This prestigious event will gather top players from around the globe, competing for the title of the first annual Disney Lorcana TCG World Champion.
