Civilization 7 Dev Firaxis Says 'There's Hope for Gandhi, Yet'

by Hannah Feb 25,2025

Civilization 7's release has left many veteran players wondering about the absence of a familiar face: Mahatma Gandhi. A staple of the series since its inception in 1991, Gandhi's omission is notable. This absence, however, is not indicative of neglect, according to Civilization 7 lead designer Ed Beach.

Beach assures fans that Gandhi's absence is a strategic decision, part of a larger roadmap for future DLC. He points out that iconic civilizations like Mongolia and Persia were also initially absent from previous Civilization titles (Civ 5 and Civ 6), highlighting the necessity of prioritizing new and exciting additions alongside established favorites. The omission, he clarifies, doesn't signify that Gandhi is forgotten; his inclusion is planned for a future update.

While the community awaits Gandhi's return, Firaxis is addressing player feedback regarding Civilization 7's reception on Steam. Concerns about the user interface, limited map variety, and missing features have resulted in mixed reviews. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledges the negative feedback but expresses confidence in the game's long-term success, believing the core fanbase will appreciate the game more with continued play. He describes the game's initial performance as "very encouraging."

For players eager to conquer the world in Civ 7, resources are available to aid their endeavors. Guides covering victory strategies, significant changes from Civ 6, common mistakes to avoid, map types, and difficulty settings are readily accessible. The future looks bright for both Gandhi and Civilization 7.
