The exhibition spans Eisner's illustrious career (1941-2002), encompassing pages from The Spirit, New York: The Big City, and a near-complete presentation of his influential graphic novel, A Contract with God: The Super.

According to gallery owner Philippe Labaune, Eisner's 1940 debut of The Spirit revolutionized comics with its innovative style. He masterfully employed cinematic techniques like dynamic panel layouts, varied perspectives, and seamless transitions, mirroring the fluidity of film. Eisner also pioneered the use of visual symbolism, enriching the narrative depth through environmental details and background elements that reflected character emotions and scene tone. His use of splash pages and unconventional page designs broke free from rigid formats, creating a more immersive reading experience. These stylistic advancements not only redefined comic art but also showcased the medium's capacity for sophisticated storytelling.

The Will Eisner Exhibit opens Thursday, February 13th, with a reception from 6pm to 9pm ET. It runs until Saturday, March 8th. The Philippe Labaune Gallery is located at 534 West 24th Street in New York City and is open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 6pm ET.
